Card making Christmas cards Christmas crafts How to Papercraft Papercrafter Techniques Projects
Helen Fitzjohn’s keepsake pop-up Christmas cottage greeting can be created using just a few crafting essentials and our handy template. Keep the colours to soft rustic tones in duck egg, red and olive to match Helen’s lovely delicate look. You could also add a battery-powered tea light behind your pop-up Christmas cottage card to create a cosy winter glow.

YOU WILL NEED:
Template
Paint, Crown Duck Egg Emulsion tester pot
Felt tip pens: STABILO Metallic Green, various colours
Watercolour brush pen
Cardstock, 300gsm white
Shredded or tissue paper
Acetate
Scalpel
Lightbox
Glitter
Glue
METHOD:
1. Print the cottage template provided onto white card, 21cm x 30cm. Paint the design using felt tips as watercolours – scribble the pens onto a piece of acetate and use a water-filled brush pen to pick up the colour. Apply a little watered down duck egg emulsion for the door, sky and snow shadows.
2. Cut along the solid black lines. The orange lines are mountain folds, the blue lines are valley folds. Use a light box to trace the valley fold lines onto the reverse of the card and gently score. Carefully fold up the card.
3. Cut out the window panes and shutters. Add white card behind the shutters. Colour the roof metallic green. Cut out the other elements such as the snow mounds, wreath etc. Colour these in and add to the card. Glue a little glitter to the robins. Stick the tree and gift strip inside the house.
TOP TIP: Don’t have a lightbox? Make your own using plexi glass from a picture frame and a box – just use a torch or your phone underneath!
