Designer for the Day 141

We love having our readers as our Designer for the Day because it means you get to share your passions with us and craft-lovers alike as well as telling us your secrets or what you’re loving (or hating) this month. This issue’s designer Samantha Dawkins has stunned us with her traditional Christmas card which oozes class and opulence.

You will need:
Craft essentials
Dovecraft Little Red Robin paper pad
Mini tartan bows,
Spellbinders 2010 Heirloom Ornament dies
JustRite Merry & Bright co-coordinating stamps
Embossing ink
Cosmic Shimmer Bright Gold embossing powder
Sentiment stamp
Scalloped edge punch
Circle dies

1. Trim a square piece of red card, slightly smaller than the card blank. Layer the holly
patterned paper onto the red leaving a small border.
2. Die cut a piece of vellum using an 11.5cm circle die. Use a small amount of glue in the middle of the vellum to stick it onto the top left of the patterned paper.
3. Cut a 5cm x 18cm strip of tartan paper. Punch a scalloped edge along both sides of the strip and adhere the ribbon on top. Glue the tartan strip to the patterned paper, ensuring the glue behind the vellum circle is hidden. Fold both ends of the tartan strip and ribbon behind the red card and glue down.
4. Fix the red card to the front of the card.
5. Die cut the Centura Pearl Pale Gold card using sizes three and four of the ornament dies. Stamp two of the coordinating ornament and greeting stamps onto cream card using embossing ink. Heat emboss with gold embossing powder, remembering to use an anti-static powder tool to prep your card first.
6. Trim the heat embossed images leaving a small border and glue to the front of the
die cut ornaments. Adhere the larger ornament to the left side of the card
front the smaller ornament lower down with a slight overlap.
7. Stamp and heat emboss a sentiment onto cream card and layer onto red card. Glue to
bottom right.
8. To finish, glue a tartan bow at the top of each ornament.

TOP TIP: If you find your greeting is not lined up properly, you can re stamp and heat emboss it on another piece of cream card and cut it out using a die or by hand and glue it in place.
